Local News: Disciplinary charges dropped against Hamilton cop

Hamilton police have withdrawn disciplinary charges against a constable previously charged with assault because of low probability of conviction.
Const. Steven Wowk was charged earlier this year with assaulting the same woman during two separate incidents – one June 2010 and the other October 2013, while he was off duty. In August the crown withdrew the two assault charges after Wowk entered into a peace bond, promising to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
During a brief Police Services Act hearing by teleconference Tuesday morning police lawyer Marco Visentini said he also spoke with the woman, who said she did not want to participate in any disciplinary hearing.
Citing the complainant's wishes and the dropped criminal charges, Visentini said there was not a reasonable prospect of conviction. Two counts of discreditable conduct were withdrawn.
Hamilton Police Association representative Mike Cruse offered no comment for the defence.
